Icon of the Seas - what powers the largest Cruise Ship ever built?
To propel the Icon of the Seas at the planned 22 knots, there are six Wärtsilä engines, which together produce 67,500 kW.
The ship is also equipped with the most modern solutions to the problems that all ships face in terms of environmental impact. On board there are many fuel cells, the possibility of shore power and solutions that convert the ship's waste heat into 3 MW of additional energy. Among them is an advanced air lubrication system that sends millions of microscopic bubbles under the hull to reduce friction.
