Louise Senior Master P&Ople - P&O Ferries
Meet Senior Master Louise Sara, Captain of the Pride of Canterbury ROPAX ferry, crossing the English Channel between Dover and Calais on a daily basis.
For Louise, no day is the same at sea, and that's what makes the job so interesting and rewarding. Every day brings new challenges and no day is the same in the English Channel.
Louise has to navigate the busiest shipping lane in the world, weaving her ferry between giant tankers, bulk carriers, freight and naval vessels.
Some days it can be completely calm, and other days strong storms and tides can affect the crossing.
As well as leading her bridge crew in navigating the Channel, Louise is also responsible for everyone else on board, from the engineers in the engine room up to the stewards working in the restaurants, and of course the passengers travelling on the Pride of Canterbury.
It is her responsibility to ensure that everyone is safe and kept happy and comfortable at all times. After rising through the ranks, Louise is keen to see more people, especially young women, enter the maritime sector and forge a career at sea. With so many opportunities and variations for careers at sea, it's a brilliant choice for anyone looking to start a new career.
